Mixed doubles duo Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai got off to a winning start at the Indonesia Open on Tuesday when they defeated South Korea's Kim Young-Hyuk and Chae Yu-Jung 21-10, 21-7 in the first round.

The top-seeded Thais are chasing their third successive title after wins at the Indonesia Masters last week and in Germany earlier this month.

The pair also claimed three titles in consecutive weeks on home soil in January.

This week's tournament is the second of three events in successive weeks in the Indonesian resort island of Bali.

The season-ending BWF World Tour Finals will run from Dec 1-5.

In the women's singles first round yesterday, Thailand's Phittayaporn Chaiwan, who reached the semi-finals last week, beat Indonesia's Yulia Yosephine Susanto 21-18, 21-19.

Fifth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong defeated Lianne Tan of Belgium 21-12, 21-12.

Supanida Katethong lost to Indonesia's Gregoria Mariska Tunjung 21-16, 21-15.

Top seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan cruised past Maria Ulitina of Ukraine 21-13, 21-10.

South Korea's An Se-Young, who defeated Yamaguchi in the final last week, had a light workout in her 21-11, 21-8 win over local star Ruselli Hartawan.

In the men's singles, Kantaphon Wangcharoen was defeated by Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark 21-18, 21-12.

Sitthikom Thamasin lost to home player Shesar Hiren Rhustavito 12-21, 21-15, 21-16.

Top seed Kento Momota of Japan, who was champion last week, defeated India's Lakshya Sen 23-21, 21-15.
