Left back Teerathon Bunmathan has been appointed as captain of the Thai team for two friendly matches.
The War Elephants face Nepal at Chonburi Stadium in Chon Buri on Tuesday and take on Suriname at BG Stadium in Pathum Thani on Sunday.
Both matches kick off at 7pm.
Thailand coach Mano Polking and team manager Nualphan Lamsam had a meeting with the players on Tuesday at a Bangkok hotel where Buriram United defender Teerathon was announced as captain of the team.
Japanese club Kawasaki Frontale's Chanathip Songkrasin, who captained the side which won the AFF Suzuki Cup in January, is not in the team.
Polking has called up forward Pathompol Charoenrattanapirom to replace his Buriram teammate Supachai Chaided who pulled out of the squad after sustaining an injury during a Thai League 1 match at the weekend.
Pathompol was a member of the Suzuki Cup-winning side.
The two friendlies are part of Thailand's preparations for the Asian Cup qualifying round in Uzbekistan in June.
It will be Thailand's first matches since winning the Southeast Asian title.
Meanwhile, the Thai U23 side will play Qatar in their opening match of the Dubai Cup friendly tournament tonight at 11pm, Thai time.
Thailand, who left for Dubai yesterday, will next play China on Saturday.
Coach Worrawoot Srimaka said he had selected three captains for this tournament -- Anusak Jaipetch, Korrawit Tasa and Teerapat Laohabutr.
"Our goal is for our players to gain experience," Worrawoot said.
The tournament is part of the U23 side's preparations for the SEA Games, Asian Games and Asian U23 championship this year.
Worrawoot said Qatar's players are mainly those from the team which played in the recent Asian U19 championship.
However, he admitted that he knows very little about the Chinese team.
Worrawoot said he aimed for his men to get four points from the two matches in Dubai.
