The opening event of the SAT-TWT Open Road to World Ranking series will tee off at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club in Pattaya on Wednesday, organisers said.

There will be eight tournaments in the series with a total purse of 20 million baht for the 2022 season, said Chanya Sawangchit, president of the Thai Women's Professional Golf Association (Thai WPGA).

"Our goal is to turn the Thai Women Tour (TWT) into a Rolex World Ranking tour. While Thailand already has a world ranking tour for the men, we have yet to have such a privilege for the women," Chanya said.

"Thanks to our experience in organising world ranking tournaments before, we believe we can have our tour sanctioned by the Rolex World Ranking body in the near future."

"I'm confident that Thai women's golfers have the ability to compete with those from around the world as long as they can develop their skills systematically and have tournaments to play continuously," Chanya added.

Currently, Atthaya Thitikul is Thailand's highest-ranked player at No.5, followed by Patty Tavatanakit at No.13.

The first event in the SAT-TWT Open Road to World Ranking series offers a total prize fund of 2.5 million baht with the winner taking home 367,500 baht.

It will be played over three days with a field of around 132 players.
