Thailand ended week two of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League with a defeat in Quezon City, the Philippines, on Sunday.

The 14th-ranked Thai team lost to world No.1 Americans 3-1 (17-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-18) as they concluded the second week of action with one win and three losses in Pool 4.

Thailand, who are hit hard by Covid-19 cases, are one of the two teams that took a set from the Tokyo Olympic champions and three-time VNL winners in this year's campaign.

Japan, who beat Thailand 3-0 on Friday, defeated the Americans 3-0 in the first week of action.

Ajcharaporn Kongyot was Thailand's top scorer with 25 points. Chatchu-on Moksri had 13 points and Pimpichaya Kokram scored eight.

Alexandra Frantti scored 27 points for Karch Kiraly's team while Kelsey Robinson had 11 points.

"It's always so much fun to play with Thailand. They play with so much joy. And it's not easy," said Robinson during a courtside interview after the match.

Thailand will have around 10 days to rest before beginning their third week of action in Bulgaria.

Thailand will play in Sofia during the final week of the preliminary phase at the end of the month.

The team, captained by setter Pornpun Guedpard, will take on winless South Korea in the first game of Pool 6 on June 29.

They will meet the Dominican Republic the day after before meeting Brazil on July 2 and Italy on July 3.

The opening match against the Koreans will be shown live on GMM25 at 9pm.

The top eight teams from the 16-team tournament will qualify for the final phase in Turkiye between July 13-17.

Thailand are currently eighth with 12 points from four wins in the standings.

The Americans lead the standings with 21 points while Japan, who beat Thailand on Friday, are second with 20 points. Italy are third with 17 points.
