Zhu stuns Wang in all-China semi to earn a shot at Hua Hin crown

China's Zhu Lin upset seventh seeded compatriot Wang Xinyu 6-2, 6-4 in the semi-finals of the Thailand Open at True Arena Hua Hin Sports Club yesterday.

Zhu will play either top seed Bianca Andreescu of Canada or Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine in the final today.

In the doubles event, Chan Hao-ching and Wu Fang-hsien of Taiwan defeated compatriot Latisha Chan and Chile's Alexa Guarachi 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 to make the final.

They will play Zhu Lin and Wang Xinyu for the title.

The tournament is making a return after being called off for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ongoing edition offers a total purse of US$250,000.

Davis Cup heartbreak

Thailand lost to Romania 3-2 in the Davis Cup World Group I play-offs tie at the National Tennis Development Centre, Muang Thong Thani, yesterday.

The first day of the competition had ended 1-1 after both teams split the opening singles matches.

Pruchya Isaro and Thantub Suksumrarn gave Thailand a 2-1 lead after their 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Marius Copil and Victor Vlad Cornea in the doubles tie yesterday.

Kasidit Samrej then lost to Nicholas David Ionel 4-6, 1-6 before Yuttana Charoenphon went down to Filip Cristian Jianu 0-6, 2-6.

Romania secured their spot in World Group I while Thailand were relegated to World Group II.
