Flying Buriram thrash Phrae, Port bundle out Beetles

Thai League 1 leaders Buriram United remained on course for a sweep of domestic titles this season with a 5-2 rout of Phrae United in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night.

Port also moved into the semi-finals with a 1-0 win over Chiang Rai United, but former league winners BG Pathum United were thrown out of the race by a shock 2-1 loss at the hands of Police Tero.

Bangkok United kept their hopes for silverware alive when an own goal by Wasan Homsan gave them a 1-0 victory over Nakhon Ratchasima.

Hosts Buriram got down to business as early as the second minute of the match when Goran Causic gave them the lead which was quickly cancelled out by Apiwit Samurmuen.

Supachai Chaided put the Thunder Castle back in front and struck again in the 27th minute before Haris Vuckic added two more goals to the tally in the 45th and 76th minutes. Phrae were gifted their second goal in the 65th minute when Ratthanakorn Maikami guided the ball into his own net.

Buriram coach Masatada Ishii praised his players for their "pleasing performance".

"I am happy that we won and qualified for the next round but I am also a bit worried because we conceded two easy goals," he added.

The draw for the semi-finals will take place on March 23 with the matches being played on April 19.

Meanwhile, Thailand national team will be playing two friendly matches against Syria and the United Arab Emirates during the Fifa Day break later this month. The War Elephants are scheduled to face Syria on March 25 before playing the UAE on March 28. Both 'International A' matches will be held in the UAE.

Thai national team will call up 26 players for training on March 20 and will leave for the UAE on March 23.
