Buriram United's dream of impressing their fans in their first home game since sealing the Thai League 1 title last weekend was shattered by a 3-2 defeat at the hands of visiting Port Sunday night.
The Thunder Castle were assured of the title last Saturday night when they edged Chiang Rai United 2-1 in an away game to open an unassailable lead over second-placed Bangkok United.
After missing a few scoring opportunities, the hosts claimed the upper hand shortly before the break when Suphanat Mueanta set up Haris Vuckic with a nifty chip.
Port wrested control of the proceeding in the second half as Airton Tirabassi produced the equaliser on 53 minutes.
The visitors continued to pile pressure and Worachit Kanitsribumphen put them ahead at the stroke of the hour.
There was more excitement in store as the Thunder Castle did not give in and Supachai Chaided put the home team on even footing four minutes later.
However, Port seemed bent on spoiling the champions' homecoming as Worachit bagged his second goal of the match to give the visitors a 3-2 edge with only nine minutes remaining.
Also on Sunday night, Chiang Rai edged hosts Muang Thong United 2-1.
Earlier on Saturday night, Chonburi continued their resurgence with a 2-1 win over Nakhon Ratchasima, Lamphun Warriors moved out of the relegation zone after edging Lampang 2-1 and Nongbua Pitchaya and Sukhothai played out a 1-1 draw.
