Benjamin James Davis has joined Chonburi after his contract with English League One club Oxford United expired, the Thai League 1 side announced yesterday.

The Sharks are trying to rebuild after a disappointing Thai League 1 season which ended last month.

They were title contenders but collapsed in the second half of the season and finished sixth in the top flight.

Sasom Pobprasert resigned as coach before the end of the campaign and has been replaced by Makoto Teguramori.

Widely known as Ben Davis, the 22-year-old midfielder played for the U18, U23 and first team of English Premier League side Fulham from 2019-2021.

The English-Thai star played for Thai League 1 club Port on loan from Oxford United in the 2022-23 season.

After his contract with Oxford was not renewed at the end of last season, Thailand U23 star Davis decided to sign a deal with Chonburi.

Meanwhile, Thai League Co has announced the 2023-2024 Thai League 1 season will kick off on Aug 11 and end on June 16, 2024.

Thai League 2 will also start on Aug 11 and end on May 18, 2024.

The curtain-raising Thailand Champions Cup match, which pits Thai League 1 champions against FA Cup winners, will be played on Aug 5.

Buriram United, who won both trophies, will meet Bangkok United, who were runners-up in both competitions.

Buriram also won the League Cup.
