Thai cyclists Thanakhan Chaiyasombat and Phetdarin Somrat are "100 percent ready and fit" for the men and women's road race events of the 2024 Olympic Games.

Thanakhan will be in action today in the men's 272.1-kilometre road race, while Phetdarin will take part in the women's 157.6km event tomorrow.

President of the Thai Cycling Association Gen Decha Hemkrasri, who also heads the Asean Cycling Federation (ACF), said yesterday in Bangkok that both Thai riders are raring to go.

Gen Decha claimed that both Thanakhan and Phetdarin "are 100 percent ready and fit and ready for their events.

"I have been informed by Thai team coach Visut Kasityapat that the two cyclists have now trained on the actual route.

"This should help them work out their plans for the races because there are hilly stretches on the route.

"The distances for these road races at the Games are long. The men's event covers a distance of 272.1km with 2.8km of hilly tracks. The distance for the women's race is 157.6km, with 1.7km of it being on the hills.

"The cyclists and the coach have now collected every possible detail about the course and there is a possibility that they can have good results at the Games."

Gen Decha added that Phetdarin had fully recovered from an injury suffered in a fall during the women's time trial event on July 27, when she had finished in the 34th place.

Today's men's event will start at 4pm (Thai time) and the women's race will begin at 7pm (Thai time) tomorrow.
