Jarred Brooks submits Gustavo Balart to win ONE Interim Strawweight MMA World title

ONE Championship™ (ONE), the world’s largest martial arts organization, electrified the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, with ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart.

In the main event, #1-ranked contender Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks overcame a spirited effort from #3-ranked Gustavo “El Gladiador” Balart to capture the ONE Interim Strawweight MMA World Championship.

The American star wasted no time from the opening bell, shooting immediately for a takedown against the Cuban Olympian. The former undisputed divisional king was relentless in his grappling offensive, grinding until he was able to take Balart down and secure his back.

From there, “The Monkey God” sealed the victory, locking in a rear-naked choke to force the tap with just 21 seconds left in the first round. Next, he can look forward to a World Title unification matchup with reigning king Joshua “The Passion” Pacio.

In the co-main event, Mayssa Bastos defeated Danielle Kelly in an exhilarating encounter to claim the ONE Women’s Atomweight Submission Grappling World Title.

Kelly was aggressive to begin the exchanges, attacking explosively with head snaps while actively pursuing the takedown. The American also defended well against Bastos’ signature berimbolo.

However, the decorated Brazilian star quickly adjusted to Kelly’s pace and was able to turn the tide by mid-bout. It was all Bastos from that point, as she advanced with a torrent of leg-lock and kneebar attempts.

The battle continued fiercely until the final moments, with Bastos increasing her aggression in the closing moments. After time expired, all three judges scored the bout in favor of Bastos to win by unanimous decision.
