The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has given crafty playmaker Chanathip Songkrasin a comeback call for the 50th King's Cup, which will take place in Songkhla on Oct 11-14.
However, there is still no place for veteran stars Theerathon Bunmathan, Sarach Yooyen and Teerasil Dangda in the 23-member national squad announced by the FAT on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Consadole Sapporo midfielder Supachok Sarachart has been forced to pull out of the team after suffering a hamstring injury during a J-League game last weekend.
The selected players will depart for Songkhla on Monday to train for the four-nation tournament with the three other participating teams are Tajikistan, the Philippines and Syria.
Chanathip's BG Pathum United teammate Jaroensak Wonggorn has also made the squad.
Thailand head coach Masatada Ishii told a press conference on Tuesday that the players who didn't get a chance to play in a friendly tournament in Vietnam last month have been included in the team.
"We want to give them a chance to showcase their talents. We were scheduled to play two matches against Russia and Vietnam in Hanoi, but the game with Russia was called off because of a typhoon," said the Japanese tactician.
"I have called up [Ratchaburi left back] Apisit Sorada because he seems to be an interesting prospect.
"We will have a Fifa Day break again in November and that's when we will be finalising our team for the Asean Championship.
"We also have future events like the Asian Cup on our mind, so we are going for younger players to build a strong squad for the future."
Ishii added that the team are keen to win the King's Cup after missing out on the trophy last year.
