Ratchaburi left-wing back Apisit Sorada says his call-up to the national team for next week's King's Cup in Songkhla province has come as "a big surprise".
The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) announced the 23-member squad for the 50th edition of the prestigious tournament on Tuesday.
The event will take place from Oct 11-14 and involve national teams of Tajikistan, the Philippines, Syria and hosts Thailand.
While there was no place for veteran stars Theerathon Bunmathan, Sarach Yooyen and Teerasil Dangda in the team, Thailand head coach Masatada Ishii named Apisit in the squad, describing him as "an interesting prospect".
This is the first time that Apisit, who has played for the Thai U19 and U23 teams in the past, has been selected for the senior national squad.
"I am feeling really excited," said Apisit on Wednesday. "I have been longing to be a part of the War Elephants team for many years. It is the dream of every player to play for their country.
"This news came as a big surprise to both me and my family. I was really surprised to hear that coach Masatada Ishii had been following my progress for a long time.
"I will put in my best effort in the training camp and in any match if I am given a chance. It's a great opportunity for me to learn and improve my game."
Matches involving the Thai team will be broadcast live via Thai Rath TV (32) and the official Facebook page and YouTube channel of Changsuek Official.
