LPGA cash boost

The Thai LPGA Tour will consist of six tournaments this year with each event containing a 5 million baht purse according to the tour's new boss Patinya Kuantrakul.

Nontaya Srisawang will feature in the Thai LPGA Tour season opener today.

A total prize bounty of 30 million baht has been provided by the Sports Authority of Thailand.

The first event starts today and the final tournament is scheduled for Sep 5-7. Both will be held at Panya Golf Club, owned by Patinya's family.

Patinya said she wants to set up of a golf centre in every region of the country instead of trying to increase the number of tournaments.

"With a large number of golfers throughout the country, it would be convenient to have a golf centre in each region," she said.

"Finding more sponsors is also one of my main tasks."

Singha Corporation, 3K Battery and Morseng are currently the Thai LPGA's main sponsors.

Several leading golfers will take part in this week's season opener including Nontaya Srisawang, Patcharajutar Kongkrapan, Thidapa Suwannapura and Thanaporn Kongkiatkrai.

The winner will receive 71,900 baht in prize money.
