Her Majesty the Queen will join Thailand's Vayu team to compete in the 36th Phuket King's Cup Regatta on Friday.

Locals in Phuket are looking forward to welcoming Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana, who will take part in the international sailing competition on Friday by joining the Vayu team competing in the IRC Zero class. The participation marks her second consecutive year of taking part in the competition.

This year's regatta, running from Nov 30 to Dec 6, sees nearly 200 vessels compete, filling Phuket's coastline with life and excitement.

Established in 1987 to honour His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great's 60th birthday, the regatta has grown into Asia's premier sailing competition, promoting the late King's legacy as a globally accomplished sailor.

The event underscores Thailand's readiness to host world-class sailing events, including the prestigious 52 Super Series while nurturing young Thai sailors and boosting the marine tourism sector.

Thursday's races involved over 720 sailors across 100 vessels, both large and small. Despite strong winds and overcast skies, competitors displayed exceptional skill, delighting spectators along Kata Beach.

This year also marks the debut of disabled sailors in the SV-14 class, demonstrating inspiring talent and determination.

In addition, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty the Queen will present the competition's prizes at Beyond Kata Hotel today.

Phuket authorities have prepared four locations for the public to welcome the royal family, including Beyond Kata Hotel, Robinson Lifestyle Thalang, Muang Thalang School and the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand's office in Thalang district.
