Four ONE Championship fighters failed to pass hydration or make weight at Thursday’s official ONE 170 weigh-ins, but the card will still go ahead as planned.
With Friday night’s blockbuster card set to play out in front of a sold out Impact Arena, there was plenty of drama brewing early on during the three-hour testing window at the host Marriott Bangkok Hotel Sukhumvit.
Seven fighters failed on their first attempts, with featherweight Muay Thai champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai and interim bantamweight Muay Thai title challenger Nico Carrillo nowhere to be seen.
But Tawanchai finally came in after around an hour and passed his checks with no problem, making Friday’s main event against Superbon official.
Scotland’s Carrillo eventually arrived with 20 minutes left and made weight under the curtain – prompting loud cheers from “The King of the North” and his team.
There were also initial hydration fails for Bampara Kouyate and Japan’s Masaaki Noiri, but both returned to make their fights against Jo Nattawut and Shakir Al-Tekreeti, respectively, official.
Myanmar’s Thant Zin also failed on two hydration attempts but the third time proved to be the charm, and he went on to make weight with only minutes to spare.
His opponent – Thailand’s Suriyanlek – did not make it, however, and will forfeit 20 percent of his purse to Zin.
Zin’s fellow Burmese fighter Soe Lin Oo also failed to pass hydration and make weight together over three attempts, but his opponent Seksan Or Kwanmuang of Thailand quickly agreed to a 142.5lbs catchweight.
Maurice Abevi and Mamat Samedov both failed to pass hydration for their lightweight MMA fight, and it will now go ahead at a catchweight.
The rest of Friday’s match-ups will proceed at their original contracted weights, including the co-main event for the bantamweight MMA title between champion Fabricio Andrade and challenger Kwon Won-Il.
