Gruelling Asian road meet flags off in Phichit today

Cyclists from 29 countries will participate in the 44th Asian Road Cycling Championships which begin today in Phichit.

The 10-day championships, which will also cover routes in Phitsanulok, start off at 9am with the 42.80km team time trial mixed relay elite event and the 21.40km team time trial mixed relay junior event.

"Thai national cyclist Petchdarin Somrat will take part in the time trial mixed relay elite event along with her teammates Kamolrada Kaoplod, Thanakan Chaiyasombat and Sarawut Sirironnachai," said Gen Decha Hemkrasri, president of the Thai Cycling Association.

"We hope that Petchadarin and Thanakan will win tomorrow [today]. We also have Jutatip Maneepan who will compete in the road race event while Peerapol Chaochiewkwang will compete in the men's time trial."

The opening ceremony, which is scheduled to start at 2.30pm at Bueng Si Fai, will be presided over by Phichit Governor Thaneeya Naipinit.

There will be a live broadcast via the Thailand Cycling Association Facebook page and TCA's YouTube channel from 8.30am onwards.

The competition ends on Feb 16.
