Slightly adjusting the position of your right foot will change the width of your stance and therefore you'll be able to hit the ball at different points on the arc of your swing. In a perfect world this would mean hitting the ball on a slightly ascending strike with the driver and a slightly descending blow with the irons.

The tendency with many golfers is that the clubhead comes in to meet the ball on an overly steep angle, regardless of if the shot is with an iron or wood. This results in strange divot patterns and inconsistent ball flights. The shallower the divots the greater control.

Much has been said about the correct ball position, and this can lead to confusion. Keep it simple and just try to position the ball opposite your left armpit, this way the clubhead will be travelling fairly level to the ground through impact -- not sharply up and down. Only when faced with a different type of shot should you move the ball away from the left armpit position. For example, back for a low punch or a little more forward for a drive that's wind assisted.

Out of Bounds: Terrible golfers will occasionally stumble in with a reasonable score. Then act like it happens on a perfectly regular occurrence, when in fact it's a case of 'even a blind chicken will occasionally find a little corn'.
