Bangkok United's players celebrate a goal during their match against Sydney FC.

Thitiphan Puangjan scored deep into injury time to earn Bangkok United a 2-2 draw with Sydney FC in the first leg of their AFC Champions League Two Round of 16 clash at Sydney Football Stadium on Wednesday.

Richairo Zivkovic put the Angels in front from the penalty spot five minutes after the interval before Adrian Segicic netted for Sydney in the 60th and 78th minutes, but Thitiphan's 95th-minute strike left the tie finely poised ahead of the return leg in Bangkok on Feb 19.

The hosts had an early attempt from outside the area, but Patryk Klimala's shot was blocked by Bangkok United goalkeeper Patiwat Khammai.

Striker Muhsen Al Ghassani of Bangkok United steered his attempt narrowly wide after bursting through the home defence in a frantic opening six minutes that also saw Antony Caceres denied a goal-scoring opportunity by Manuel Tom Bihr's covering challenge on the edge of the six-yard box.

Sydney took control during the last ten minutes of the first half when Anas Ouahim's well-struck free kick was cleared by Patiwat.

Sydney's failure to make the most of their first-half dominance was to count against them when, five minutes after the restart, Bangkok United took the lead.

Zivkovic took the penalty kick after Sydney defender Devenish Meares hauled down Al Ghassani and the match referee pointed to the spot. Zivkovic shot into the bottom corner to put the Angels ahead.

However, Sydney levelled the score from Segicic when the former Juventus winger bundled the ball home at the hour mark.

Segicic looked to have completed the turnaround with 12 minutes remaining when he cut in from the right to bend a left-footed shot into the far corner, but Thitiphan had other plans.

Meanwhile, two Thai League teams will play in the AFC Champions League Two on Thursday.

Port will brace themselves for a revitalised Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors when the two sides meet in their round of 16 first-leg tie.

Former Thai League 1 champions Muang Thong United are scheduled to take on Singapore's Lion City Sailors with both teams equally confident of victory in the first match of their home-and-away last 16 round clash.
