Mahmoud Eid struck twice on Sunday night as second-placed Bangkok United defeated hosts Sukhothai 3-1 in a Thai League 1 battle on Sunday night.

It was a dominant performance by the Angels, who took the lead in the 23rd minute when Eid headed home a lob from Rungrat Poomjanthuek.

The Bangkok side got their second shortly after the hour mark when Sukhothai's Abdulhafiz Bueraheng committed a handball inside the box and the match referee awarded a penalty after a VAR check. Richairo Zivkovic converted the spot kick.

Bangkok United widened the gap further a few minutes later when Pokklaw A-Nan set up Eid with a through ball.

Hosts Sukhothai were able to pull one back in the 75th minute from a penalty kick awarded after Bangkok United defender Everton Goncalves committed a foul and Matheus Custodio made no mistake from the spot for Sukhothai.

Bangkok now have 50 points from 23 matches -- Buriram United lead the table with 55 points.

After the match, Bangkok United coach Totchtawan Sripan said: "After we got the first goal, the game did not go as per our expectations because the hosts Sukhothai really made things difficult for us.

"We wanted three points from this match so every player is happy with the result."

In the other top-flight matches on Sunday night, PT Prachuap claimed three points at their home ground after a 1-0 victory over Nakhon Pathom United, thanks to a first-half goal by Airton Tirabassi.

Former champions Chiang Rai United's dismal run continued as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ratchaburi at home. Njiva scored the winner in the 58th minute of the match.

Hosts Khon Kaen United shared a point with Lamphun Warriors following a goalless stalemate.
