Carvalho leaves Police Utd

Former Thailand boss Carlos Roberto Carvalho has resigned as coach of Police United, the club said yesterday.

Carlos Roberto Carvalho.

The Brazilian quit after a series of poor results as Police are struggling in the Thai Premier League with only seven points from nine games.

Carvalho is one of the most successful coaches of the Thai national team, guiding them to the semi-finals at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing by stunning the hosts in the last eight.

He is the sixth coach to leave or be sacked by a TPL club this season. The other five are Scott Cooper (SCG Muang Thong United), Somchai Chuayboonchum (Samut Songkhram), Rui Bento (Bangkok United), Alejandro Menendez Garcia (Buriram United) and Narasak Boonklieng (Air Force).

Police will have a tricky TPL match against joint leaders Singhtarua tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Buriram United chairman Newin Chidchob has vowed to steer his team to make a sweep of trophies on the domestic front after they were eliminated in the AFC Champions League on Wednesday.

Buriram won all domestic titles — the TPL, FA Cup and League Cup — last year, and Newin said yesterday the Thunder Castle were looking forward to a repeat of the feat.

“We will now focus on domestic competitions,” Newin said.

“We want to retain all the titles.”

The Thunder Castle will be at home to Chonburi in the TPL on Sunday.
