Thai stars headline Pattaya Open action

Pattaya: Luksika Kumkhum, Thailand's top player, will meet New Zealander Marina Erakovic in the first round at the PTT Thailand Open today.

Thailand’s Tamarine Tanasugarn, left, and Luksika Kumkhum.

If world No.131 Luksika gets past the opening round, she will face second seed and No.26 Erina Svitolina of Ukraine or Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm.

Tamarine Tanasugarn will begin her campaign against Miyaki Doi, who helped Japan won the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group 1 at the weekend.

If Tamarine beats Doi, she is likely to face top seed Peng Shuai of China.

Nicha Lertpitaksinchai will take on Japan's top player Kurumi Nara in the first round.

Two-time champion Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan will meet qualifiers.

Tamarine said: "It is a tough draw. Doi played very well in the Fed Cup and is in a confident mood but the hot weather could affect her."

Luksika said: "It will be tough for me as Erakovic is a good player in the singles and doubles."
