The Business Development Department has teamed up with Thai startups such as Wongnai, Seekster, Fixzy and GoWabi to create new search platforms for popular shops.

The cooperation will start with five target services comprising elderly care and house cleaning; electricity and water supply; air-conditioner repair; food; and spas. The new search platforms are scheduled to be running in April.

Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, director-general of the department, said eligible services for the search platforms should have been in business for more than one year and be certified for basic business management standards by the department or other state agencies.

"New search platforms help customers who love searching for services online," Mr Vuttikrai said.

He said the new search platforms not only benefit customers, but also service providers and startups that demonstrate their business management technology.

As of Jan 31, service businesses supported by the department totalled 9,902, with 23.8% or 2,351 restaurants, 20.6% or 2,035 spas and traditional massage, 18.6% or 1,844 asset management, 11.7% or 1,162 housekeepers and house cleaning, 10.7% or 1,062 elderly care service, 5.38% or 533 auto repair, and 4.23% or 419 construction firms.

Others services aided by the agency include lodging, physiotherapy and software development.

The Commerce Ministry has committed to develop a big data system to aid doing business and monitor changing trade scenarios and regulations worldwide that could affect Thai exports.

Banjongjitt Angsusingh, director-general of the International Trade Promotion Department, said this year's focus is on secondary cities in India and China, as well as in Africa, Central Asia and Russia.
