NTT looks to Thai digital transformation

GENERAL

Global technology service provider NTT Ltd is gearing up for innovative services in Thailand, gravitating towards digital transformation, after absorbing its three associated firms into a single brand.

The three companies that have been drawn into NTT Ltd are NTT Communications, which provides cloud services and data centres; NTT Security, which offers a security operations centre; and Dimension Data, one of the largest systems integrators.

"We are ready to deliver innovative services that help customers move towards digital transformation," said Sutas Kongdumrongkiat, chief executive in Thailand for NTT Ltd.

NTT Group, a Japanese telecom and technology firm, launched NTT Ltd in July this year, combining 28 subsidiaries under a single umbrella and becoming a global ICT service provider with 40,000 employees and combined assets of US$11 billion, said Mr Sutas, who was previously managing director of Dimension Data Thailand.

Some 1,000 employees work at the Thai operation of NTT Ltd, which also oversees sales in Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos, he said.

After the consolidation, the company expects to move towards turnkey services with faster response times and a broader customer base.

NTT Communications and NTT Security mostly serve Japan-based customers, while Dimension Data serves mostly non-Japanese clients.

"Under the new brand, upselling and cross-selling can occur faster with a larger consumer base," Mr Sutas said.

NTT Ltd also has NTT Venture Capital, a corporate venture capital firm in Silicon Valley that invests in startups to catch up with new technologies.

NTT Ltd expects revenue from digital transformation products and services to account for 50% of its global total within five years.

Mr Sutas said businesses and government are moving towards digital transformation, particularly automation, modern digital infrastructure such as cloud-based data centres, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

The banking sector is embarking on digital transformation along with large enterprises, healthcare and retail services, he said.

He acknowledged that economic uncertainty could hinder tech investment decisions, but such solutions are necessary because they can save on costs, increase competitiveness and foster new business models, he said.

Manabu Kahara, head of Japanese multinational companies in Asia-Pacific at NTT Ltd, said Thailand has the largest base of Japanese customers in the region.
