A drone carries medicine and medical supplies to far away recipients under the 'Delivers Wellness' project, the country's first medicine delivery service using drones to fly from hospitals to homes.

Thailand Post has kicked off its "Delivers Wellness" project, which sees the country's biggest parcel delivery company use drones to deliver medicine to people in remote areas.

The project still needs more development through partnership with others to transform the transport industry in Thailand, the company said.

On Wednesday a drone was deployed to deliver medicine to people in Sing Buri province, witnessed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who visited the province to observe the flooding situation.

Gen Prayut said the initiative highlights the integration of digital technology with society, which is part of the national policy.

The move also enhances the quality of healthcare services for Thai people, he said, adding that medicine-delivering drones are more convenient in difficult situations, such as when flooding occurs or amid the pandemic, or for areas that have limited transport options.

"Thai people have been dealing with various kinds of crises, but helping support them will never be too hard due to close cooperation among people and all the sectors," said Gen Prayut.

The policy has been assigned to all agencies to jointly improve the quality of life of the people, especially the introduction of digital technology as an important part of the integration and support for the development of modern healthcare services that will allow Thai people to easily access the services equally, he said.

Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, Digital Economy and Society minister, said this latest project capitalises on the power of high-performance and high-precision digital technology devices, such as drones, which can be used to deliver medicines and necessary supplies to people at home.

Thailand Post, which is a complete logistics service provider, can serve as a crucial player in this service with its comprehensive network of delivery services for households in Thailand, he noted.

The company has already been distributing medical equipment to hospitals across the country and delivering medical supplies from hospitals to patients.

Dhanant Subhadrabandhu, president of Thailand Post, said the initiative is the country's first medicine delivery service using drones to fly from hospitals to homes.

"This project has earned trust from more than 400 users and hospitals," he said.

Thailand Post has been carrying out a campaign to deliver medicines and medical supplies from hospitals to people at home by mail to ward off infection risks among people and support equal access to medical services.

In terms of the drone service, people who want to use the service can contact hospitals where they receive treatment to check the rates for the delivery of medicine and medical supplies.

Hospitals which want to participate in the drone delivery project can contact Thailand Post to receive further information.
