Just Dance 2022 has TikTok viral dances and... that's pretty much it

TECH
Just that

The Just Dance franchise has had people moving and grooving for years, providing a means for gamers to work out by using video games similar to the now popular VR game Beat Saber. With a new Just Dance title being released annually, is it worth spending money on the latest one?

THE PROS

The main draw of every new Just Dance title is the updated playlist and Just Dance 2022 gives gamers some bangers. In the age of TikTok, it's no surprise that Dua Lipa's Levitating and Bella Poarch's Build A Bitch are included in the line-up. Recent hits like Good 4 U by Olivia Rodrigo and Love Story (Taylor's Version) are also on the playlist. Thankfully, it's not Taytay's 10-minute song or else that'll be an emotionally- and physically-draining workout. Much like its predecessors, it's fun to play with friends whether you have a camera or you're just using your phone to match the actions on the screen. If you do have a camera on the PlayStation like I do, it's fun/embarrassing/cringy to watch the video recording of your "dance", but it's definitely much more fun when you have your friends play it and you have recorded blackmail material -- just in case.

THE CONS

The updated playlist will probably be the main reason you buy the game. Sadly, it may also be the only reason. There's nothing else that is new in the 2022 title. Even the playlist for 2022 isn't a lot though that's been the case for every Just Dance anyway, so you will be forced to pay for the Just Dance Unlimited subscription, which features an endless amount of songs. It's an annoying setup and it makes me long for the good ol' days when there was no such thing as "add-ons" or "season passes" and you just buy a game in its entirety.

THE VERDICT

Aside from the new songs, Just Dance 2022 doesn't really offer anything fresh. To get the full experience, you'll have to spend extra on the subscription service. So if you're set on buying it, make sure you've also budgeted paying for Just Dance Unlimited.
