Anitech, a consumer electronics product maker, has joined hands with tech startup Creative Digital Living to unveil a metaverse platform to level up the education industry, capitalising on virtual technology.

The move aims to tackle structural problems in the country's education system, which saw 65,000 young people drop out by the end of academic year 2021, based on data from the Equitable Education Fund.

The platform has a target to launch in the third quarter and is called Aniverse Metaverse.

It offers educational opportunities through "Edu GameFi" under the "learn-to-earn" concept.

The platform plans to roll out ANIV, a non-fungible token (NFT) that can be used in the digital world.

The NFT is a reward for learners to fund their further education or use for other purposes.

Thomas Pitchyen Hongpakdee, chairman and executive director of Creative Digital Living, said 50 million baht has been spent on the platform's development through fundraising from founders and investors.

The project is supported by various organisations such as Assumption University of Thailand (ABAC), Trinity Securities Co, AMR Asia Plc and Dhipaya Insurance Plc, said Mr Thomas, who is also chief executive of Anitech.

He said ABAC will become a pilot university teaching students through the metaverse.

Other universities are in talks to join the platform, said Mr Thomas.

ABAC is in the process of developing teaching programmes, expected to be deployed on the platform in the third quarter.

Aniverse Metaverse also partners with 10 well-known content creators that have a combined 10 million followers, which can broaden the customer base on the platform, he said.

The platform is supported by consultants from various organisations, said Mr Thomas.

He said participating universities will provide teaching via the metaverse in parallel with physical courses. Participants can earn credits as if they were studying in physical classes.

Ampornsak Angkatavanich, chief executive and co-founder of Creative Digital Living, said his team has 10 years of experience in developing software and mobile apps for leading financial institutions in Thailand.

Aniverse Metaverse is run on blockchain technology.

Participants can study in the virtual world while generating income with ANIV, he said.

The platform analyses participants' studies to match them with future career opportunities. The technology also supports life-long learning, said Mr Ampornsak.

Aniverse Metaverse plans to provide virtual land blocks for trading after its launch in the third quarter, he said.

In the initial phase, 250,000 virtual land blocks will be on sale at a price of 2,500 baht per block, said Mr Ampornsak.

More information can be sought from the website aniv.io.

According to IT market research firm Gartner, 25% of the global population will spend one hour a day in the metaverse by 2025.
