Huawei Technologies Thailand has vowed to continue investing in the country by driving 5G implementation, pushing for cloud adoption, accelerating the low-carbon transition, and cultivating digital talents as part of its business strategy this year.
"We will keep investing in Thailand to continue the country's digital journey in 2022," Abel Deng, chief executive of Huawei Technologies Thailand, said at a virtual conference.
He said the company will keep expanding Thailand's 5G adoption to pursue economic value.
Huawei wants to see the 5G penetration rate double to 20% from the current 10%.
"Together with customers, we want to help Thailand lead Asean in 5G adoption in vertical industries," Mr Deng said.
"This year, we will introduce 5G hospitals, 5G ambulances and artificial intelligence-assisted solutions in 20 hospitals," Mr Deng said. "We will deploy 100 5G factories in the Eastern Economic Corridor, including 5G automobile factories."
In Thailand, 5G population coverage has reached 70% and 5G users stand at 4.3 million, which is 2.5 times the total number of other Asean countries.
Referring to cloud adoption, he said the percentage of Thai companies using the Cloud has increased from 59% in 2020 to 78% in 2021, citing a Deloitte report.
In 2022 Huawei Cloud aims to release more than 80 new Software-as-a-Service products to help banks, small and medium-sized enterprises, and over-the-top platforms move to the cloud and embrace digitalisation.
The company will also keep developing digital power tech to accelerate energy transition in the country, Mr Deng said.
Thailand has announced a new roadmap for carbon neutrality in 2050 and Huawei will commit to supporting the country to help it become Asean's low-carbon leader, Mr Deng said.
He said Huawei's Digital Power Business will launch a series of new products in Thailand, such as new generation, safer and intelligent photovoltaic inverter products.
It will launch new AC charging piles for individuals, and higher-performance overall DC charging piles for charging stations in the second half of this year.
The company will also focus on driving the innovation ecosystem and nurturing Thai talent.
Huawei will continue to invest in the 5G Ecosystem Innovation Centre, whose partners are expected to increase from 70 to 120 this year, Mr Deng said.
The Huawei Cloud partner network will rise from 300 to 500 this year, Mr Deng said. For digital talent cultivation, Huawei will work with 23 local universities to cultivate 20,000 individuals this year.
Asked whether the recent Covid-19 lockdowns in some Chinese cities would have an impact on his company's supply chains, Mr Deng said: "Huawei always adheres to a global and diversified supply strategy and has established a comprehensive business continuity management system.
"We are confident that we can respond well."
