Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 earbuds are a great choice for the money

People have different ear shapes, and everyone has different sound preferences. My small sample size of eight close colleagues all agree that they all love the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 earbuds.

The buds' 7mm dynamic sound drivers has outstanding noise distortion reduction, pump out impactful bass that can be boosted even further by Sennheiser's phone app, and produces high fidelity clear mids and highs for nice natural vocals and high-pitched sounds.

Bluetooth codec is another factor that determines how well an audio system can put out good sound at low latency. And these Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 support aptX Adaptive, SBC and AAC codecs. If you listen to higher-resolution audio regularly on an Android phone, you'll be hard-pressed to find premium earbuds of this calibre at this price point.

The provided adaptive noise cancellation system automatically adjusts the level of noise cancelling when the noise in your environment changes. The amount of noise the buds can cancel out is OK, but not as good as Huawei's FreeBuds Pro 2 that I reviewed recently.

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 earbuds have an elegant and futuristic look, feature great ergonomics that won't hurt your ears with extended use and are light enough for all-day wearing comfort. They also have IPX4 splash resistance to reduce your anxiety if they get wet. The buds also come in a fabric-covered charging case that can be charged wirelessly.

The earbuds have a choice of ear adapters and optional silicone fins to ensure a fit that's tailored to you.

The buds work independently from each other, unlike some brands that require you to use a specific side (usually the right bud) if you want to wear only one.

The buds can be continuously used for seven hours straight or 28 hours of overall play time when using the case to charge on the go.

Making phone calls is crystal-clear as three advanced noise cancelling microphones on each earbud ensure people only hear you and not your surroundings.

The Sennheiser companion phone app also has a standalone "bass boost" toggle that is worth spotlighting. I'm usually not a fan of bass boost settings, but this toggle can be applied to any EQ tuning without changing your preferred preset levels. It's also my favourite bass boost implementation that I've heard. It manages to add the extra impact you'd want from good bass without drowning out the mids and highs too much. It's not magic, and the low end is certainly brought forward when the bass boost is toggled on, but it does succeed in making these earbuds sound more exciting. You can also personalise the sound with a choice of presets and an equaliser feature to tailor the sound experience to your taste.

Transparency mode that lets you hear your surroundings on the Momentum 3 is less impressive. While it does let outside noise in, I was unimpressed with how the Momentum 3 processed other people's voices in this mode. While I wasn't expecting the class-leading passthrough that the AirPods Pro provide, I was still let down considering the price of these wireless earbuds.

There are also some smaller feature omissions that Sennheiser needs to add in future firmware updates. Multi-device pairing, arguably the only "premium" feature missing here, is confirmed for Sennheiser's roadmap but there's no timeline for when to expect it.

The Sennheiser earbuds won a design award from Red Dot for outstanding innovation.
