Kampanat moves to the Privy Council

His Majesty the King has appointed former assistant army chief Kampanat Ruddit to the Privy Council.

The appointment, which was published in the Royal Gazette on Friday, follows the King's command in line with Section 2 of the interim charter, along with Sections 12 and 13 of the 2007 constitution on the King which remain in effect.

The royal command was counter-signed by Gen Prem Tinsulanonda, president of the Privy Council. The appointment brings the number of privy councillors to 14.

The appointment came two days after Gen Kampanat tendered his resignation as a member of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA). His departure has reduced the number of NLA members to 247.

Gen Kampanat, who graduated from Class 16 of the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School, has held a series of key army positions including commander of the 31st Infantry Regiment, King's Guard; commander of the 1st Division, King's Guard; chief of the first army region and assistant army chief.

During his time in the army, he also served as a special guard for the monarch and senior judge in the Military Supreme Court.

He was one of the senior military officers assigned to deal with the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship's political demonstrations in 2010. He was also a former deputy secretary-general of the National Council for Peace and Order.

After retiring in October, he became a member of the NLA.

Meanwhile, the King has appointed ML Aurajitra Snitwongse as a lady-in-waiting to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The announcement was published in the Royal Gazette on Friday. ML Aurajitra is director of the Sirikit Institute, Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary.
