Prayut visits flood-hit Surat Thani

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his entourage flew from Don Mueang military airport to Surat Thani province on Thursday morning to see the flood situation and visit flood-hit people.

He was accompanied by Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chatchai Sarikulya, Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Deputy Defence Minister Udomdej Sitabutr, armed forces commanders, and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department director-general Chatchai Promlert.

From Surat Thani's Wing 7 airport, they flew on a helicopter to inspect flood-ravaged areas in Phun Phin, Ban Naderm and Khiansa districts.

After returning to the airport, they proceeded by land to a power plant in tambon Khao Hua Khwai in Phun Phin district, where they were briefed by the Surat Thani governor.  Gen Prayut then had a meeting with flood-hit people and handed them cash and bags of necessities.

From the power plant, they travelled by boats to visit residents of Ban Nong Chok in tambon Tha Sathon.

From Ban Nong Chok, they proceeded to a forward command of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department at tambon Hua Sai in Phun Phin district for lunch.

They were scheduled to return to Bangkok about 3.30pm.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Thursday that flooding continued in the southern provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Pattani, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Surat Thani and Yala, affecting 368,000 people.
