Police searched 118 locations nationwide, mostly international schools, early Thursday morning and arrested 99 foreigners - including Myanmar, Indian, German and Lao nationals.

Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpal, deputy commissioner of tourist police, said the X-ray Outlaw Foreigner operation targeted 118 premises, among them 74 international schools.

Searched areas included major tourist destinations like Pattaya City in Chon Buri province, Hat Yai district of Songkhla and Koh Samui of Surat Thani province because foreign criminals pretended to be tourists.

The focus was largely on international schools because undesirable foreigners staying in the country often presented themselves as language teachers, he said.

The most common charge against the arrested foreigners was overstaying visas. Most of those caught for this were from Myanmar, India or Germany, Pol Maj Gen Surachet said.

Another common charge was illegal entry, and most of these people were from Myanmar, Laos or India.

Some of those arrested were involved in romance scams, credit card forgery and illegal drugs. They would be blacklisted, the deputy commissioner of tourist police said.

The raids that began at 1am Thursday. Those arrested included 35-year-old Nigerian Ezeocha Nnamdilucky at D Condo condominium in Prawet district, Bangkok.

He was wanted under an arrest warrant for alleged possession and trafficking of cocaine. The suspect has a Thai wife and a Thai child, Pol Maj Gen Surachet said.
