Thai Airways International (THAI) has found the flight captain and the Zurich station chief acted unethically in causing the delay of a Zurich-Bangkok flight during a pilot-passenger seating dispute.

The airline management on Monday announced the result of its investigation into the seating dispute on flight TG971, which delayed its departure for more than two hours on Oct 11.

The captain and the station chief failed to coordinate to solve the dispute over the seating of two pilots deadheading to Bangkok and consequently delayed the flight. This affected passengers and the airline's image, THAI president Sumet Damrongchaitham said.

They had failed to prioritise the interests of passengers and the airline, which went against the airline's corporate good governance, he said.

Both men would be disciplined in accordance with company regulations. The company took responsibility for the incident and would find solutions to prevent a recurrence, Mr Sumet said.

Affected passengers were being compensated, he said.
