New holiday honours Queen

The cabinet has declared June 3 a national holiday to observe the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.

Assistant government spokesman Taksada Sangkhajan said after the cabinet meeting yesterday, the government approved the national holiday declaration as proposed by the cabinet secretariat.

His Majesty the King named Gen Suthida Vajiralongkorn na Ayudhya as queen on May 1 and conferred upon Queen Suthida the formal title of Her Majesty the Queen on May 4.

Also yesterday, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said His Majesty has expressed his thanks to the people for helping to make the coronation a splendid success.

His Majesty has requested that a party be organised to thank the state and private sectors as well as "Jit Arsa" volunteers for their roles in and contributions to the coronation ceremonies between May 4-6.

Gen Prayut said the party will be held before June 24.
