The government will re-edit a music video accompanying the Thai national anthem after a Buddhist group criticised it for not featuring enough Buddhist imagery.
Patcharaporn Inseeyong, permanent secretary to the Office of the Prime Minister, told media yesterday that the production team is shooting new scenes of Buddhist religious activities which will be added to the video.
The re-edited version will air next week.
The move is in response to criticism from the ultra-conservative "Chao Buddha Palang Pan Din" (Power of Buddhists for the Country) group, which last week lodged a complaint with the Royal Thai Police, asking for an investigation into those who produced the video which was released earlier this month.
The group claimed that the video appeared to emphasise other religions over Buddhism.
The new music video, created by the government to instil pride and patriotism, features representatives of the many religions present in Thailand. These figures stand to sing the Thai national anthem.
However, the group pointed out the "conspicuous" lack of Thai monks in the scenes.
Ms Patcharaporn said on Tuesday that the Office of the Prime Minister has agreed that the music video needs some changes.
However, she urged everyone to remain calm and not allow the issue to inflame any religious conflict.
"This music video is made to show that all religions in Thailand can live peacefully and in harmony under His Majesty the King," she said.
The new 1.16-minute video was released after the nation celebrated the coronation of His Majesty the King earlier this month and features people from all walks of life standing as they sing the anthem.
