SONGKHLA: Police arrested 35 illegal Myanmar migrants in a palm plantation in Sadao district on Wednesday night while they were waiting for a trip to Malaysia.

Twenty-one men and 14 women were hiding in the palm plantation behind the Khlong Ngae market in tambon Khlong Ngae when police rounded them up at about 8pm. Another Myanmar man who led the group was also arrested there.

Police said they were part of the endless traffic of illegal Myanmar migrants heading for Malaysia and traffickers usually led them to Bang Klam, Hat Yai, Rattaphum and Sadao districts where they would be waiting for trips to Malaysia.

Most Myanmar migrants would work in the farming and construction sectors there, police said.
