The Transport Ministry has asked Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc (BEM) to increase train frequency to cope with passenger numbers at Tao Poon station.
The station is packed with more passengers than it can handle, especially during morning rush hours.
Tao Poon is an interchange station for the BEM-operated Blue and Purple lines and passenger congestion between 7am and 8am has raised complaints from commuters heading to work.
Chirute Visalachitra, deputy permanent secretary for transport, said the ministry has asked the BEM to adjust train frequency to resolve congestion at the station where average waiting times are seven minutes for the Blue Line and six minutes for the Purple Line.
He said congestion will further ease when new carriages begin entering service next month.
With more new trains also in operation by early next year, the average waiting period will be halved, he claimed.
According to Mr Chirute, the number of passengers has increased sharply over the past few months, from 62,000 daily to 70,000.
Starting on Aug 12, the first extension of the Blue Line from Hua Lamphong to Lak Song will be operational while the second extension from Tao Poon to Tha Phra will begin services in January next year.
