NCPO axes complaint hub

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on Sunday announced the closure of its complaint centre, as the NCPO will be dissolved when the new cabinet is sworn in on Tuesday.

Since its inception in July 2017, the centre had received 5,073 complaints -- 912 of which were related to corruption.

"These cases have been forwarded to the Centre for National Anti-Corruption (CNAC) for further action," said Col Sirichan Ngathong, the deputy spokesman for the NCPO.

Out of the 912 corruption allegations, 842 were found to have grounds, said Col Sirichan.

Several high-profile cases came to light after the centre received reports from the public -- including a crackdown following the nationwide embezzlement of funds intended for the destitute, a marked-up procurement project by a local administrative organisation and extortion of migrant workers by government officials.

Aside from corruption cases, the centre also received 4,161 complaints about misconduct committed by state and non-state officials, she said. Action was also taken in these cases. Those wishing to file complaints are advised to submit their petitions with other agencies, such as the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the public service centre of the Prime Minister's Office, said Col Sirichan.
