Private hospitals miss price reporting deadline: Internal Trade Department

The Internal Trade Department will summon 48 private hospitals to explain why they failed to provide information about the actual costs of drugs, medical supplies and medical services by the submission deadline of July 31.

Prayoth Benyasut, the department deputy director-general, said the department has received information from 305 private hospitals so far. The remaining 48 had not yet submitted the information by the deadline. He said the department will send letters to summon the 48 hospitals to explain.

Mr Prayoth also said the department will discuss with the Dental Council the actual costs of dental services at private hospitals. He said dental service fees are also among the products and services put on a new price control list by the central committee on the prices of goods and services.

According to the department, the cabinet meeting on July 2 decided 54 products will go on the price control list, including drugs, supplies and related services.

The Commerce Ministry earlier extended the submission deadline for 353 private hospitals to provide information about the actual costs of drugs, medical supplies and medical services to July 31.

With the changes, the ministry will postpone providing a QR code for the public letting them check prices for drugs, medical supplies and medical services from July 29 to Aug 15.

Consumers have filed complaints about expensive drugs, medical supplies and services at private hospitals and the government wants to introduce greater transparency to the system.
