Twelve provinces, mostly in the Northeast, remained flooded on Friday, with Ubon Ratchathani receiving overwhelming water from other provinces before it flowed into the Mekong River.
Chayaphol Nitisak, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, reported floods in Phichit, Phitsanulok and Sukhothai provinces in the North; Amnat Charoen, Khon Kaen, Roi Et, Sakon Nakhon, Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani, Yasothon and Nakhon Phanom in the Northeast; and Nakhon Sawan in the Central Plains.
Mr Chayaphol said that about 3,400 people were evacuated in Amnat Charoan, Ubon Ratchathani and Yasothon.
In Ubon Ratchathani, 22 districts were flooded as large volumes of water flowed through it to many rivers — from Amnat Charoen, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Nakhon Ratchasima, Roi Et and Yasothon. The water was converging in the Mun River before entering the Mekong River in Khong Chiam district of Ubon Ratchathani.
Meanwhile, water from the northern provinces of Phichit and Phetchabun was flowing into Nakhon Sawan where part of its tambon Huai Thau Nuea in Nong Bua district was being flooded.
The Meteorological Department said rain continued heavily in the Northeast, the North and the western coast of the South on Friday before easing from Saturday to next Wednesday.
