CHIANG MAI: Two women from the same village were arrested while travelling with 2.5 million speed pills on their pickup truck in Fang district early on Tuesday morning.

Nati Jatae, 40, and Marisa Nepee, 33, of Moo 4 village in tambon Mae Thalob of Chai Prakan district, were arrested on their silver Toyota truck after breaking through a checkpoint in Mae Ai district at 12.30am on Tuesday, officials said.

Authorities found the pills in 25 sacks on the tray of the truck. The women were quoted as saying that they were hired for 900,000 baht to deliver the drugs to a buyer in Fang district.

They said they did not know the drug supplier and buyer because they only contacted them by phone.

The women destroyed their mobile phones just before their arrest in order to prevent authorities from tracing accomplices, officials said.
