Police have arrested a secondary school teacher and his friend for allegedly sexually abusing a Mathayom 2 secondary school student over several months.

Pol Lt Col Nathapol Ratanamongkolsak, superintendent of the Human Trafficking Suppression Division, said on Thursday that teacher Samphan Krajang, 40, and Apilak Yingyuad, 31, were apprehended in Bangkok on Thursday morning.

Mr Samphan, a native of Chachoengsao, was taken into custody at his room in Thung Song Hong area and Mr Apilak at a restaurant in Laksi district, a day after the Criminal Court approved warrants for their arrest.

Pol Lt Col Nathapol said a 14-year-old schoolgirl's parents complained early this month that a teacher at a famous school in Ngam Wong Wan area of Bang Khen district had sexually abused their daughter.

According to police, Mr Samphan confessed. He said he had taught at the school for 13 years and after he and his wife divorced he often stayed overnight at the school. Over the years he had developed close ties with many students including the schoolgirl in question, whose parents asked him to closely supervise her.

He allegedly admitted having lured her into having sex with him at various places for several months, and also allowing four close friends to have sex with her.

Pol Lt Col Nathapol said Mr Apilak, the second suspect, was a former student at the school and ran a restaurant nearby.

Police were preparing cases against other suspects in the case, including a businessman and a Buddha amulet collector both well-known in Ngam Wong Wan area.
