CHON BURI: A Canadian tourist, 51, was killed when a big bike doing wheelies crashed into his motorcycle in Pattaya early Friday. The 25-year-old big bike rider was badly hurt.
The fatal crash occurred in front of Foodland supermarket on Pattaya Klang Road in tambon Nong Prue of Bang Lamung district, said police who were reported at around 3am.
Police found the fallen big bike with Chon Buri licence plates on the road. Its rider, identified later as Samart Budboran, 25, sustained serious injuries and was lying nearby. He was sent to Pattaya Memorial Hospital.
Not far from the scene, a white-orange standard motorcycle, also with Chon Buri licence plates, was badly damaged. A Canadian man who rode it was lying unconscious along the road with severe injuries. Medics performed CPR on him before rushing him to Pattaya City Hospital.
However, the tourist, 51, whose name was withheld pending notification of his relatives, was pronounced dead shortly later.
Kristhanat Pararak, 56, who witnessed the crash, told police that he saw the big bike going at high speed with its front wheel coming off the ground. At the time, the tourist’s motorcycle was about to cross the road to the supermarket. The big bike rider probably could not apply the brakes on time and rammed into it, said Mr Kristhanat.
Police would examine closed circuit footage to find out the cause of the crash.
