SONGKHLA: A young man about to enter a military service was stabbed to death in a knife attack in his house in Hat Yai district on Sunday morning, police said.

Pol Lt Col Sathaporn Suksawang, a Hat Yai police investigator, said police and medical staff went to the house in Bang Muang community in tambon Khong Hae after being notified of the attack.

They found Abdulloh Sanbuatboo, 21, lying dead in front of the house.

Preeda Sanbuatboo, 55, Abdulloh's mother, told police that her son was using his smart phone in his bedroom when an old friend -- who she identified by his nickname Met -- arrived on a motorcycle. Holding a one-metre-long knife, he walked into the room and stabbed Abdulloh in the left side of the chest.

The attacker pulled the knife out, dropped it in the bedroom and dragged Abdulloh's body out of the house before fleeing on his motorcycle, she said.

Mrs Preeda said Abdulloh and Met used to be close friends, but their friendship turned sour recently for an unknown reason. The two had a fist fight about one month ago, she added.

Before his death, Abdulloh applied to enter military service as a draftee. He was due to report for duty on Nov 1, police said.
