Decree sees royal guard bolstered

An executive decree has been published in the Royal Gazette governing the partial transfers of manpower and budget from two infantry regiments to the royal security command unit.

The decree, under the supervision of the army, the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters and the Defence Ministry, takes effect on Tuesday.

Under the decree, some of the manpower and budget belonging to the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Ratcha Wallop Royal Guards and the 11th Infantry Regiment of the Ratcha Wallop Royal Guards will be transferred to the royal security command unit.

The unit is tasked with planning, directing, coordinating and supervising operations which provide security and guard Their Majesties the King and Queen, the heir to the throne, royal family members, royal representatives, persons acting on the command of His Majesty the King and royal guests.

Meanwhile, the newly-appointed air force chief ACM Maanat Wongwat has given assurances he can run the air force as well as perform his duty as a senator.

ACM Maanat, whose first day on the job as air force commander-in-chief was yesterday, said: "At times, I've worked 24 hours a day for seven days without fail."

ACM Maanat has succeeded ACM Chaiyapruk Didyasarin who has gone into mandatory retirement.

As the commander of the air force, ACM Maanat occupies one of the six seats in the Senate reserved for the supreme commander, chiefs of the three armed forces, the national police chief, and the defence permanent secretary.
