The owner of the Blue and Purple train lines has proposed ticket packages with discounted fares for commuters using the two mass transit routes.

Pakapong Sirikantaramas, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) governor, said the agency had put the proposal to the operator of the two lines.

The MRTA awarded the Blue Line concession, from Tao Poon to Lak Song stations, to the Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc (BEM). It has also commissioned BEM to operate the Purple Line, from Tao Poon to Khlong Bang Phai station in Bang Yai district of Nonthaburi province.

Tickets for the Blue Line are from 16-42 baht. The Purple Line rangees from 17-42 baht.

The cheaper ticket plan proposed by the MRTA is for a 50-trip package covering the two lines at 47 baht per trip, a 40-trip pass for 48 baht per ride, and a 15-trip ticket for 52 baht.

The BTS already offers similar travel passes to passengers on its skytrain service.

The MRTA officially opened the Blue Line extension from Hua Lamphong to Lak Song on Sunday and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha experienced the ride on Monday.
