Heavy rain, gusty winds forecast for upper Thailand

Heavy rain and gusty winds are forecast for upper Thailand until Oct 15, with temperatures expected to drop in the North and the Northeast.

The Meteorological Department said on Thursday that another moderate high pressure system will extend over upper Thailand from Oct 12-15. Thundershowers and strong winds were possible in the North, the Northeast, the East and Central regions, including Bangkok and surrounding areas during this period.

After that, temperatures were expected to drop by 2-3°C in the North and the Northeast.

People in these areas should be ready for changeable weather conditions.

The department said the easterly wind across the Gulf and southern Thailand will intensify and rainfall increase in the South. Moderate winds would lift waves to about 2 metres high in the Gulf and above 2 metres in thunderstorm areas. All vessels should proceed with caution.

On Oct 12-13, heavy rain and gusty winds were forecast for 9 provinces in the North (Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Utttaradit, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phichit and Phetchabun), all provinces in the Northeast, 7   provinces in the Central Plains (Chai Nat, Nakhon Sawan, Ang Thong, Sing Buri, Lop Buri, Saraburi and Ayutthaya), Bangkok and surrounding areas, 8 provinces in the East (Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat) and 6 provinces in the South (Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Ranong, Phangnga and Phuket).

On Oct 14-15, affected provinces include 7 provinces in the North (Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet and Tak), 8 in the Central Plains (Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Ratchaburi, Samut Songkram, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom and Ayutthaya), Bangkok and surrounding areas, 5 in the East (Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat), and 12 in the South (Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Phangnga, Phuket, Trang, Krabi and Satun).
