The Thai consulate office in Hong Kong has urged Thai visitors to the Chinese territory to avoid protest sites during the weekend and on Thursday next week.

The Royal Thai Consulate-General of Hong Kong issued the advisory and posted it on Facebook on Saturday morning.

Citing its reports and recent clashes between the protesters and police, the consulate told Thais to avoid two protest sites on Hong Kong Island on Saturday -- from 1pm at Tamar Park in the Admiralty area and from 2.30pm at Chater Garden in the Central area where authorities approved the assembly during 6-9pm.

For Sunday, demonstrators will likely gather at Salisbury Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, from 3pm and at Kwun Tong Promenade in Kwun Tong area during 4-8pm.

On Thursday, a protest will likely take place at the MTR Prince Edward mass transit station in Kowloon during 7-11pm.

The advisory warned Thai tourists against taking photos at close range of the protesters and police on duty and to refrain from any activity that may provoke the demonstrators.

It also urged Thais to allow more time for travel by car and underground train services.

The consulate asked Thais living in Hong Kong and tourists to the territory to register online and give their contact details at www.consular.go.th/main/th/register

The contact numbers for the consulate are (+852) 6821-1545 or (+852) 6821-1546 and 02-572-8442 for the Foreign Ministry’s call centre in Bangkok.
