PATTAYA: The Pattaya Provincial Court on Friday extended the detention of a prisoner who fled the courthouse in company with two other defendants on Monday, sparking a huge manhunt culminating in their recapture.
Pol Lt Col Somboon Ueasamanmaitri of Pattaya police station said Noi Nilthes, 40, was escorted from his police station cell to the court.
The court approved his further detention for a period of 12 days.
Mr Noi escaped from the courthouse on Monday afternoon with Bart Allen Helmus, 39, and his Thai wife Sirinapa Wisetrit, 40. They were at the court for trial on drug trafficking charges. The three were captured in Watthana Nakhon district of Sa Kaeo province on Wednesday.
Police took Mr Noi to Pattaya. The American escapee and his Thai wife are still in an intensive care unit of the Sakaeo Crown Prince Hospital in Muang district of Sa Kaeo. Mr Helmus shot his wife and then himself in a bid to avoid arrest, according to police.
