Prosecutors have arraigned three suspects in the Criminal Court on 11 charges over the bombings in Bangkok in early August when the city was hosting the Asean foreign ministers' meeting.

Pornchai Chonwanichkul, deputy director-general of the Department of Criminal Litigation, said on Friday that police investigators had submitted their case report on the bombings to prosecutors on Aug 24.

Attorney-General Wongsakul Kittipromwong had decided to indict three suspects on all counts recommended by police.

The three men — Lu-ai Sae-ngae, 22, Widan Maha, 27, and Muhammad Ilham Sa-i , 27, all from Narathiwat — were formally indicted by prosecutors on Wednesday.

They were taken from Bangkok Remand Prison and arraigned in the Criminal Court on Thursday. They denied all charges. The court set Dec 16 for examination of witness and evidence lists. They were further remanded in custody.

They face 11 counts — collusion in terrorism, organised crime, illegal assembly, attempted murder, illegal possession of explosives, carrying explosives and related offences.

The indictments accuse the three defendants, in company with 18 other accomplices, of bombings at various locations in Bangkok and Nonthaburi on Aug 1 and 2.

The defendants and their accomplices are accused of planting two bombs in front of the Royal Thai Police head office on Rama I Road on Aug 1, but the bombs were discovered and safely defused, the indictment said.

They had also been involved in a bomb blast in front of the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defence in Nonthaburi, and planted four bombs at the government complex in Chaeng Wattana on Aug 1 and 2, prosecutors said.

The state accuses the defendants and their accomplices of involvement in similar attacks in Hua Mak, Bang Kapi, Thung Song Hong and Chaeng Watthana districts of Bangkok, and Pak Kret district of Nonthaburi between Aug 2 and 10.

The three defendants were arrested separately on Aug 13 and Sept 2. During police interrogation they denied all charges.
