SAMUT PRAKAN: A Japanese man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a bag containing cash and other items that a woman had left at a food court at Suvarnabhumi airport.

Kanyaphat Arwan, 38, a Thai passenger who had just returned from a trip to South Korea, alerted tourist police that her bag had been stolen from the Airport Street Food by Magic food court on the first floor near Gate 8 at around 10.20pm on Jan 1.

The bag contained two passports, about 80,000 South Korean won (2,900 baht) and other items.

Airport officials examined security video, which showed a foreign man taking the bag, said Kittipong Kittikachorn, the deputy general manager for Operations 1 at Suvarnabhumi.

Police and airport officials found the man on the first floor of the terminal at 4.30am on Jan 2. He was later identified as Takeuchi Hiroki, 56.

Police said the Japanese man admitted taking the bag but he did not remember where he dumped it.

Police have charged him with theft.
